BEAT THE HEAT WITH THE COOL ONES

The Cool Ones (1967) starring Roddy McDowall, Debbie Watson, and Gil Peterson was a pleasant parody of teenage dance shows and Svengali-like record producers ala Phil Spector as a go-go girl just wants to sing and sing she does in a middle of a live TV production number causing all sorts of havoc. As the tagline proclaimed, “It’s the story of a teenage singing idol who had it all … lost it … and had to find it all over again.  Oh, those Go-Go girls, and those get-get guys!”

ANOTHER SHORT, ANOTHER STARLET

As a kid in the late 60s, my fave actresses were Marta Kristen (Judy) in Lost in Space, Deanna Lund (Valerie) in Land of the Giants, and Bridget Hanley (Candy) with those great 60s hair styles (though set in 1890s Seattle) in Here Come the Brides.  I used to beg our babysitter to let me stay up to watch Bridget (and yes Bobby Sherman in those tight pants).  One time I got the poor girl in trouble as she let me stay up in exchange for keeping my silencet about her friends who came over. Next morning my parents kept saying they smelled something funny and I blurted out , “Oh, Donna’s friends were smoking last night.”  I got a big mouth!

Below is a clip then of Bridget and below a clip from her new short film Reunited that will be in competition with Marlyn Mason’s The Bag at the LA Short Film Festival.
