I almost wet my pants the other day when my boyfriend Ern reluctantly called me at work to inform me that the Brooklyn Academy of Music was screening The Poseidon Adventure on Tuesday April 25. He thought since I am in the know on all things Poseidon that I knew but I had no clue! I yelled louder than Nonnie did when the Poseidon began to capsize and immediately purchased two tickets. I can’t wait!!! Neither can Ern. Not!
Fox is preparing a special edition DVD package of the spy spoofs Our Man Flint (1966) and In Like Flint (1967). The producer contacted me because they want to include commentary from as many actors who appeared in the films. I led him to In Like Flint’s sexy femme fatales Jean Hale, Thordis Brandt, and Inga Neilsen.
Above is a great still from the movie. Picture (left to right) are Mary Michael, Jacki Ray, Diane Bond, Inga Neilsen, James Coburn, Ginny Gan, and Jean Hale.
Jacki Ray soon became Mrs. Tom Selleck and will be profiled in my new book along with Inga and Thordis. You can read more about Diane Bond in my Drive-in Dream Girls Book and Jean Hale was interviewed by me for Fantasy Femmes of 60s Cinema .
Though I must say I was extremely disappointed that the new Poseidon would not include any of the original cast members in cameo roles, the trailer is amazing. Let’s hope that they kept Irwin Allen’s spirit alive with the way he deliciously killed off the stars one by one as they make their trek to the top now the bottom of the upsidedown cruise ship. The TV-movie sucked not only because of its cheapness but being so PC you knew who would live and die.
In the trailer you’ll notice a blonde female singer on stage who looks confused as the ocean liner begins to tilt. Let’s hope this is a homage to Carol Lynley’s Nonnie from the original.

Fox is finally showing The Poseidon Adventure some respect and releasing a special edition DVD on May 9th. The movie is in stereo now and features a second disc chock full of extras including commentary from director Ronald Neame, Carol “I can’t swim” Lynley, Stella “Panties, what else do I need” Stevens, and Pamela Sue Martin.
Going back a number of years, I remember vividly after months of begging, my parents finally took me and my brother to see The Poseidon Adventure around my birthday on May 11 in 1973 at the Westbury Drive-in. The movie floored me and changed my life in terms of movie watching and began my adoration of Carol Lynley (above), which led me to a slew of other 60s starlets. This time I plan on buying the DVD the first day it goes on sale and seeing the new movie the day it opens on May 12. I am as excited today as I was then!
