THE ART OF SALLI SACHSE

Former 60s beach party regular Salli Sachse is now an extremely talented artist living back in her native San Diego.  Some of her work is on display in the recently opened exhibition “High Tides & Summer Nights” at the La Jolla Association of Art.  See the below link for more information and enjoy the trailer for The Trip starring Peter Fonda and Salli in her most notorious role as the LSD Freak Out Girl.

PETULIA

Though she is a quissential ’60s girl, I was never much of a fan of Julie Christie, probably because she became too big a movie star.  TCM is hosting a marathon of her movies today beginning with The Go-Between today at 11:30mAM EST.  Among her films being aired are Doctor Zhivago, Darling featuring her Academy Award winning perfrmance, and Shampoo.  See link to full schedule below. But the film I am interested in seeing is the mod Petulia (1968) set in San Francisco during the height of the free love generation, Christie plays a socialite, married to abusive Richard Chamberlain (looking quite hot with his sruffy hair), who falls for doctor George C. Scott who is in the process of divorcing Shirley Knight. See the trailer.

A COOL BLONDE

Though she is more of a 50’s star, if it wasn’t for Kim Novak (and Carroll Baker) we wouldn’t have the 60’s baby doll blonds Tuesday Weld, Carol Lynley, Yvette Mimieux, Diane McBain, Sue Lyon that we love so much.

The Egyptian Theater in LA is honoring Novak with a 3 day film festival in lieu of the soon-to-be-released DVD box set of her movies including the melodramatic trash fest Jeanne Eagles with Novak playing that drunken mess of an actress from the 20’s. See trailer below.
