One of my favorite pics. The late Aron Kincaid, Christopher Riordan, and me at Aron’s Hollywood Hills home. I was in Beach Party heaven. Read my interview with Aron in my McFarland & Company, Inc., Publishers book, Hollywood Beach and Surf Movies, and with Christopher in my BearManor Media book, Talking Sixties Drive-in Movies. ... Stunning photo (from The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts) of Pamela Tiffin on stage in a 1969 production of Uncle Vanya at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. Pamela had been living and working in Rome since 1966 when her good friend, theater producer Harold Clurman, offered her the opportunity to join Richard Basehart, Joseph Wiseman, Lois Smith, and Gale Sondergaard on stage. Read more about Pamela in my Mcfarland & Company book, Pamela Tiffin: Hollywood to Rome, 1961-1974. ... See MoreSee Less

I talk about how Pamela Tiffin disliked the fast pace of episodic television and stuck strictly to making movies. I think this was a mistake on Pamela's part because television offered opportunities to expand her range with dramatic roles and may have stopped her from being typecast in light comedic roles. She did do an unsold pilot Three on an Island with Julie Newmar in 1964 and in 1969 accepted a recurring role in the TV series The Survivors (originally shot in Europe) with Lana Turner and George Hamilton. More on Pamela and the making of these programs in my McFarland & Company, Inc., Publishers book, Pamela Tiffin: From Hollywood to Rome, 1961-1974. www.listennotes.com/podcasts/tv-confidential/david-janssen-pamela-tiffin-cZW-Qi1LS4X/?fbclid=IwY2... ... Happy 53rd Anniversary to The Poseidon Adventure. The granddaddy of disaster movies was released this month in 1972. In my book about Carol Lynley, I opined how she should have took quick advantage of the film’s amazing success and work nonstop. Alas, after shooting wrapped in June 1972, Carol waited over an entire year before taking another acting role in an episode of the British anthology series, Orson Welles’ Great Mysteries.

Carol, however, was not sitting around. She was more than a trooper and spent much time promoting Poseidon. She attended the New York premiere and did much print, radio, and TV press there and around the country. She was a co-presenter with Gene Hackman at the Golden Globe Awards; rode a float ar the Hollywood Santa Claus Lane Parade; made 4 appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson plus doing The Mike Douglas Show, The Hollywood Squares, and more.

Unfortunately, Carol garnered some notoriety along the way. She allegedly threatened to punch Shelley Winters in the nose when Shelley forgot her name while doing a talk show and made a joke of it (Carol denied to me ever saying that). She did cop to calling Red Buttons the c-word and more during an interview with columnist, Earl Wilson. Newspapers around the world picked up the story. Wilson devoted a whole chapter to it in his book, Show Business Laid Bare. Carol was mortified and regretted it deeply. She apologized profusely to Buttons who forgave her. But hey, bad press is better than no press, as they say.

A friend shared this with me and shows that Carol would do almost anything to promote Poseidon. And it all helped since Poseidon was the highest grossing movie of 1973.

For more on Carol, check out my BearManor Media book, Carol Lynley: Her Film & TV Career in Thrillers, Fantasy & Suspense.

Happy birthday Carroll Baker! Although she declined to be interviewed for my book because she does never want to talk about Harlow again, she gave me permission to quote from her memoir as much as I wanted. She and the late Carol Lynley became great friends after meeting for the first time in the mid-1990s and currently she is friends with another Carol, former 1960s starlet Carol Hollenbeck aka Carol Holland, who is interviewed in my book about her connections to both Harlows. mcfarlandbooks.com/product/dueling-harlows/?fbclid=IwY2xjawOyMXFleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZBAy... ...
