LET THE SHOW BEGIN!

Our own ’60s starlet Gail Gerber is a character in a new play called Resignation Day to debut on stage in January in North Hollywood. As described in the press notes, it is “a lewd, outrageous comedy” about the life of writer Terry Southern. Click here to read some of the sides released for actor auditions. Just from some of these snippets the play seems it will be hysterical.

NOVA SPEAKS!

Fantasy Femme Linda Harrison who played mute human Nova in Planet of the Apes (1968) and Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970) appears as herself on the new deluxe DVD release of Sunset Boulevard in a making of featurette. Linda talks about working with diva Gloria Swanson in the movie Airport 1975 where she played her assistant. Below is what Linda told me about Swanson when I interviewed her:

“She was a prima donna. “But I don’t mean that in a bad way. Swanson was an actress of statue for many years and she carried that role off camera. I think she enjoyed working with me because I was married to a [Dick] Zanuck. She told me about her affair with Joe Kennedy. And she shared with me what it was like to be an actress in that era. It was interesting hearing her stories.”

THE GORILLAS WANT YOU!

My favorite movie series has always been the Planet of the Apes. Loved 3 out of the movies (2 of the sequels, Escape and Battle, were only so-so) and the TV show. The Fox Movie Channel is presenting all 5 movies wide screen plus extended episodes of the 1974 TV series for the entire weekend. Definitely worth checking out and if you miss one it will be repeated 3 or 4 more times!

BOND. JAMES BOND.

I’m a huge 007 fan (though I am embarassed to say I haven’t seen Quantum of Solace yet) so I love reading Best and Worst lists about the movies.

Click here for Newark Star Ledger film critic Stephen Whitty’s choices for the best aspects of James Bond films in a number of interesting categories. I don’t agree with some of his picks though. Jill St. John in Diamonds Are Forever as one of the best Bond Girls? No way!!!! St. John was one of the worst and was outclassed by Lana Wood as Plenty O’Toole even though Lana had a fraction of screen time compared to the shrill St. John.
