FROM IRWIN ALLEN, THE MASTER OF DISASTER

After producing two disaster movie blockbusters The Poseidon Adventure (1972) and The Towering Inferno (1974), producer Irwin Allen turned briefly to the small screen for the made-for-TV disaster movie Flood! The title sums the film up as a dam bursts destroying a small town whose residents include Robert Culp, Martin Milner, Barbara Hershey, Richard Basehart, Teresa Wright, Cameron Mitchell, Francine York, and two “water disaster movie pros” as they were described Carol Lynley and Roddy McDowall from The Poseidon Adventure.

The movie is cheesy, the special effects underwhelming but it does have its moments like a crazed Wright falling into the water drowning trying to save a boy she mistakes for her son or a pregnant Lynley trapped in her flooded home. Check out the over dramatic trailer for Flood! Flood! Flood!:

TREK BABE SUPREME

Goofa Man Productions  has launched a very entertaining animated short called Trek Babe Supreme, which dares to answer the question, “Which Star Babe in all of the ORIGINAL Star Trek series is the most awesome?”

Among the top contenders were Barbara Luna, Susan Oliver, Yvonne Craig, Leslie Parrish, Celeste Yarnall, Lee Meriwether. Arlene Martel, Sally Kellerman, Joan Collins, Susan Johnson, etc. Click the below to find the surprising winner, which I do not personally agree with.

IF IT’S CAROL LYNLEY, DON’T HANGUP!

In 1974, Brian Clemens, famous for giving the world The Avengers, created the British TV-anthology series Thriller. These were one hour episodes videotaped in London usually starring one or two American actors in the lead. The show came over to America a year or two later and was televised as part of ABC-TV’s late night lineup as Wide World of Mystery.

One of the best episodes, that even received a video release, was If It’s a Man, Hangup! starring Carol Lynley as a fashion model being harassed by an obscene phone caller. Clemens truly dials up the suspense as it is a guessing game until the end on who in the men in her life (including Tom Conti) is the sicko. Carol looks beautiful (it was around the time she was co-starring with Geraldine Page on Broadway in the hit comedy Absurd Person Singular) and gives another effective performance as the damsel in distress. Below are link to parts 1 and 2.
