SALLI SACHSE, BEACH GIRL TO ARTIST

Today, former ’60s starlet Salli Sachse is a talented fine artist who resides in the San Diego area and has had her art work exhibited throughout the region. Her web site , which includes her work available for sale, now also pays tribute to her past life as a ’60s starlet with a whole clip page from her movies.

Discovered by American International Pictures, she appeared in every beach movie except one from Muscle Beach Barty through Beach Blanket Bingo through The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini. When the tide rode out for most of the beach girls in 1966, Salli continued on playing racing car groupies in Fireball 500 and Thunder Alley; a beer-swilling biker chick in Devil’s Angels; and most memorably her iconic turn as the LSD Freak-Out Girl opposite Peter Fonda in The Trip. Below is a wonderful tribute clip:

  • Thank you for this tribute to Salli. As one of the fellow surfers, then Choreographer of most of those Beach Films; including our romp into Race Cars and Haunted Houses, I can tell you that not only was Salli one of the most beautiful of the young ladies….she was also very cooperative, intelligent, and pleasant. I’m happy to say that Salli and I are still in touch; and I admire her new avenue of creativity as much as I’ve always admired her wonderful presence and attitude. She’s a brave, intelligent, warm and giving human being.

Toward the end, there was a collage that had something entitled BEACH GIRLS. Was that a magazine of some kind? It looked like a vintage ’60′s magazine.

    • Yes, there was. I believe there were only 2 issues possibly produced by AIP. Aron Kincaid had two and showed me. They do become available on Ebay now and then.
