In preperation for the release of my new book Dueling Harlows: Race to the Silver Screen within the next 10 days or so, here is a clip of Carol Lynley as Jean Harlow in Electronovision’s quickie Harlow, not to be confused with Carroll Baker as Jean Harlow in Paramount’s lavish Harlow, with Hermione Baddeley as esteemed actress Marie Dressler. Below is the real Jean Harlow and Marie Dressler in a clip from the film Dinner at Eight. Notice any differences?

Even this post has a Pamela Tiffin connection as Tiffin essayed the Harlow role in the 1966 Broadway production of DINNER AT EIGHT.

I’ve never seen the Electronovision production of HARLOW starring Carol Lynley but judgung from that clip it looks truly horrible and Lynley’s acting is wooden, it must have been the rushed atmosphere to get the film in the can in time to compete with Paramount’s more lavish version as I know Miss Lynley is capable of much better acting. Just one viewing of BUNNY LAKE IS MISSING will prove that.

    • Carol does give an uneven performance as Harlow, but the film for me really wasn’t as bad as critics touted at the time. What’s better is the backstory behind the making of it.
